Twin Atlantic – Live Review

Wednesday 14th September 2016 will go down in History. It was my sisters 21st Birthday, It was the hottest September day in about 100 years and oh, Twin Atlantic proved that they’re ready to play with the big boys.

Before the headliners we’re gifted with a support slot from The Xcerts. These guys are one of the best live bands in the UK Scene and today is no exception, playing the hits from most recent record There Is Only You, and featuring a heartfelt tribute to Tom Searle before set closer, There Is Only You.

As soon as Twin Atlantic storm onto the stage to Gold Elephant Cherry Alligator, the rock and roll powerhouse that opens their most recent record GLA, everybody in the room is bouncing. The crowd are eating out of the palm of the bands hands as they show off a selection of tracks pulled from their new album. The Chaser sounds like it was built for a ten thousand people party and No Sleep already looks like the band have found their sing-along set closer for the next few years. The set comes to a particular highlight with Mothertongue, the stripped back closer of the new album which Sam Mctrusty performs alone and exposed. But standing in this room with 500 friends, the song is a powerful symbol of how far the band have come. After a quip about the Foo Fighters at SXSW Festival playing the Hits, Sam insists the band are about to do the same. While meant in jest it really isn’t that far from the truth. Free still sounds like it was built for staidums, the singalong to Brothers and Sisters can probably be heard back in Glasgow and Heart and Soul closes proceedings with the crowd in a frenzy. Twin Atlantic are back and ready to aim for the upper echelons of the scene, with one of the tightest and most exciting live shows around, get out to a show and support them.
